Hooked Kitefest, Duncannon Beach - August
In the past this has been one of the stops on the Irish Kitesurfing Association tour. Spectators get an opportunity to witness the very best junior, female and male riders from across Ireland and Europe as they compete over the weekend in a series of course racing events. In the past it has celebrated the richness of traditional crafts and skills in the area, including Cookery, Crafts, Agricultural and Horticultural produce. The Association of Irish Musical Societies (AIMS) presents its annual choral festival. The first AIMS Choral Festival was held in Birr, Co. Offaly in 1980 where it ran for a number of years. Phil Murphy devised a playing technique for the diatonic harmonica involving modal music and vamping accompaniment with spectacular effect when added to fast reels and jigs. He passed his technique onto his sons, John and Pip. This festival remembers Phil Murphy.
